Do you need help? Don’t wait…..

Posted in Blogroll at 4:46 pm by satsanga

I hear people talking while I shop, when I am out for tea or coffee, or just walking to my car. I hear that so many people are busy right now and it seems like for most….being okay…will wait until January.

I have added a link that lists all the consequences of eating disordered behavior…not to scare you, but to remind you that each day matters. To remind you that your body is important  and needs care and that this care doesn’t need to wait for January.

Timothy’s Law Needs Your Help

Posted in Blogroll at 8:50 pm by satsanga

The phones are busy at the Governor’s office but we still have no indication of whether he will sign Timothy’s Law so we need to keep the pressure building. The Timothy’s Law Campaign needs everyone to:

* Call the Governor (if you already called, call again and every day until the bill is signed)
* Reach out personally to three other people and ask them to call the Governor
* Ask those three people to enlist three more people to call the governor (and so on)

Here’s the number to call: 518-474-1041

Also, you can email and fax letters to the Governor:

* Emailing: Go to www.timothyslaw.org , click on the “Get Involved” tab and follow the instructions from there

* Faxing: 518-474-8099

(Letters should be addressed to Governor George E. Pataki, State Capitol, Albany, NY 12224)

Featherweight in WNY for Education and Treatment Support

Posted in Western New York Eating Disorder Resources at 4:46 pm by satsanga

Featherweight, Inc. is a community based non- profit organization, dedicated to the education and treatment of eating disorders. It was founded by Debbie Begeny after her 22 year old daughter, Heather, died in March 2003,of complications of Anorexia Nervosa and Ipecac abuse. Debbie realized that the scope and severity of eating disorders are often misunderstood by sufferers, their loved ones, the media and the general public.

Frustrated by the lack of available information regarding the warning signs, symptoms, and treatment of the disease, Debbie resolved to bring this hidden killer into the public light, through Featherweight Inc.

The goal of Featherweight, Inc. is to use a grassroots approach , locally, to reach out to the public by disseminating information to parents, caregivers, and victims about the warning signs, dangers, and consequences of Anorexia, Bulimia, and other related disorders. While attending events such as health fairs is important, Featherweight, Inc. plans to go where healthy people may not be.

We will:

  • Hold fundraising Events

  • Work in schools to inform and educate teachers, students, and parents.

  • Produce public service announcements for television, radio, and newspapers.

  • Contribute to local and national eating disorder organizations.

  • Provide funds to help with the out of pocket expenses for one patient’s long term, inpatient care.

Consequences: Death of a Model

Posted in Uncategorized at 3:35 pm by satsanga

Like with other illnesses of denial, we (all of us in our culture) allow the pretending to happen. We allow subzero size jeans, we allow media to (ab) use models that are obviously ill and we all pretend. And then people die.
